This place is a Hindu religious shrine of Tamils of Indian origin. Here offerings are made to a goddess who is worshiped as a seven-faced deity. Having seven faces and twelve arms is meant to signify a goddess with 7 souls with different signs.
This temple with a replica of the goddess known as ‘Kali Amman’ with 7 faces and 12 hands can only be seen in Sri Lanka in this area called Kaludewala in Ratthota area of Matale district.
It can be called a specialty. Hindus living in the area worship her with more faith that they will receive divine blessings from her.
Fruits, delicious rice with milk and sweets, garlands, coconuts and ghee lamps are offered as offerings.
Once a year, the idols of the presiding deity of this temple are placed in colorfully decorated wheeled carts called ‘Theru Koodai’, and the streets of Matale area are enshrined Visits and offers pooja to her. This annual local festival is called ‘Theru Festival’ and is held on the full moon days of March. Devotees come from all parts of Sri Lanka for that. That blessed the area and the people,They believe that agriculture will improve, the area will be protected from natural calamities, prosperity will arise for all, bad karma of the people performing the puja will end and good karma will arise.
According to the Hindu belief, the goddess residing in this temple blesses the devotees with good ideas, punishes the people who do bad ideas and bad deeds, and does justice to the people who have been wronged.
This temple is a shrine that adds great beauty to Matale area.
