Save OUR

FOREST

Protect Matale’s Green Legacy

Matale District is a biodiversity hotspot, with forests covering 63% of its land area. home to Montane, Sub-Montane, Lowland Rain, and Moist Monsoon Forests. These forests are not just scenic treasures but essential for climate regulation, water conservation, and sustaining diverse wildlife. However, despite past gains in forest cover, recent years have seen alarming deforestation trends, with over 7,000 hectares lost between 2001 and 2020. The continued depletion of natural forests threatens Matale’s rich ecosystems, leading to habitat destruction and increased carbon emissions.

To combat this, conservation efforts. especially in the Knuckles Mountain Range.are vital. Protecting these forests is not just an environmental necessity but a responsibility for future generations. Join us in preserving Matale’s green heritage by promoting sustainable tourism, reforestation, and responsible land use. Together, we can save our forests and safeguard the future!
