One of the legends is that when Rama hit a spear sent by Ravana, a part of the rock called Lakegala collapsed and covered the lake at that place. Later, it is believed that its water emerged from the land where “Narangamuwa Lake” is located and this “Narangamuwa Lake” was created.

There is also a legend that a tribal leader named “Narada” dug a large lake from a cow’s horn and used it for agriculture, so this lake is called Narangamuwa Lake.

Also, since in the past, this lake was a place where the cow species “Gavaru” lived, this lake is also called “Gavaru Lake”. Later, the “lake mudded by the Gavaru” was called “Gavaramada Lake”.
