Ambokka Pattini Temple is the only shrine belonging to the Matale district that joins the Kandy procession.
The Basnayake Nilame of Ambokka Pattini Temple is the only Basnayake Nilame representing the local rural Pattini temples, who is marching along with the Basnayake Nilame of the Pattini Great Temple in the Senkadagala Kandy Maha Perahera.
The highest mountain in Ambokke is 4031 feet above sea level that separates Matale Hatkorale located in Udugoda in “Ambokka North Matale Udasiya Pattu”.
Ambokka Pattini Temple – There is an opinion that it belongs to the Dambadeniya period. Therefore, its temple is an ancient one. According to oral tradition, history states that it was built by a king who reigned in Dambadeniya.
There is a folk story about the origin of this temple.
