Thelgamuwa Oya originates from the central area of ​​the Knuckles Mountain range. This oya, which originates from there, passes through the Grama Niladhari divisions of Atanwala, Ratninda, Meda Ela, Mahalakothuwa, Illukkumbura, Kahagala, and Poththatawela and joins the Moragahakanda Reservoir. Thelgamuwa Oya can be described as one of the unique water sources that supplies water to the Moragahakanda Reservoir. In addition, it is a beautiful stream that flows through the Veddapeni Ella.

The water here is very clear, cool, and it is a great place to relax after a tiring trip. It has a rich biodiversity and is also home to various aquatic organisms. It is home to about 15 species of fish native to the Knuckles area and has become an excellent place for nature lovers.
The local communities value the river for its cultural and environmental significance, and they encourage responsible tourism to preserve its pristine condition. The river is also an important resource for the nearby villages, supporting traditional farming practices and daily life.
There are several places suitable for bathing here, the most famous being near the bridge separating Illukkumbura and Mahalakotwa divisions. The location is mentioned here (given by GPS coordinates).
