Laggala Division plays an important role as a tourist destination in Matale district. It is a historical, culturally and aesthetically appealing ecosystem. With the establishment of the Kaluganga Development Scheme, the main road that operated buses to the old Laggala Pallegama town from Narangamuwa was submerged in the reservoir. The new road to the narangamuwa was constructed above the reservoir & it passes the Guruwela junction and Halminiya also. As a result, areas that had been a reserve in the past were opened and new places of beauty emerged. Living reflection of natural beauty, the “Etha watunu Ella” was fed by the Karamana Oya and flows toward the Kaluganga reservoir. Since “Etha Watunu Ella” belongs to the biodiverse Knuckles Conservation Area and is located in the Mahaweli Buffer Zone, it is very important to engage in eco-friendly human activities within this ecosystem.
